Get to know us
Welcome to Checkpoint Watch, the premier community-sourced transit and road safety alert network serving the Auckland, Waikato, and Northland regions (coming soon).
Founded in 2015 as a dedicated Facebook community, we have spent over a decade helping North Island motorists navigate the roads safely, avoid unexpected delays, and stay informed about real-time transit and compliance events. What started as a local social media page has grown into a vital regional utility trusted by thousands of daily commuters.
Our mission
Our goal is simple: to promote road safety, transparency, and situational awareness for New Zealand drivers. Whether it's heavy fog on the Waikato expressway, sudden congestion on Auckland's motorways, or active compliance monitoring across Northland, we believe that informed drivers make safer choices.
What we monitor
To help motorists plan their journeys effectively and maintain full compliance with New Zealand road laws, our community networks monitor and share a wide variety of real-time road conditions, including:
Major Traffic Incidents: Serious accidents, road closures and hazards causing heavy congestion.
Road Safety & Enforcement Zones: Public awareness updates regarding active transport compliance checkpoints, mobile speed safety camera locations (including SUV and trailer setups), and roadside testing areas.
Regional Congestion Alerts: Sudden delays across main arterials and state highways to help drivers choose better alternative routes.
How Our Network Operates
To maintain the extreme speed and accuracy required for real-time road updates, we do not archive active alerts on this website. Instead, our network operates exclusively across two primary platforms:
Facebook Page: Our public community hub where major regional updates, traffic notices, and general safety discussions happen openly.
Premium WhatsApp Subscription: Our real-time, direct-to-phone alert system. This premium service delivers instant, location-specific notifications straight to our subscribers' devices, ensuring they have critical road and transit data before they even start their engines, without having to open another app or drain their battery because of GPS location
